Over the years there seems to be some burnout on social media sites. My recent Instagram views are down, Facebook plateaued long ago (and my Page declined), Twitter has been more work than it's probably worth.
But there's a hot spot on the horizon: after only a few days and 12 posts, my photographs get 90 likes on the Vero app for smartphones.
Social media algorithms filtering and post distribution often work against average users: suppress your contacts’ views of your posts, or even holding post distribution hostage in exchange for payment. Vero says they don't filter what you see. What I'm seeing there over the past few days is my post likes (and I assume views) doubling daily!
Who knows what they'll be a year from now Google sure changed a lot in its first year. But if they become "the next Instagram", or a better one, as they intend, I'll be glad that I checked it out early..

They are 3 years old already though I'm not sure how much they've evolved since launch. I'm most curious what they are going to do now that they've suspended the idea of paid subscriptions beyond the initial 1 million free users limit. How do they make up that revenue? Do they implement subscriptions later (they now have 3 million users) or do they put ads on the service?
I surf the Internet on PCs so I never tried Vero but for what I read it might be the next big thing. Of course tomorrow it might be forgotten but for now it seems growing.
I too use my PC with a very LARGE monitor to view websites and photos. I can't see finding this useful unless they make it available on a PC. I'll be turning 50 this year and my eyesight is not getting better. It's great that they want to make a difference but make that difference available to all not just those younglings that can spot a mouse crawling from 100 yards out.
Please don't give up on Google+. Yes, their current algorithms leave a bit to be desired, but give it time.
+David Lazarus The spam here is atrocious and out of control. Clearly, Google Plus can't control it. I have left certain photography groups over it. Now, it is invading the lesser-known groups that I follow. It's just sad, really. This is without a doubt one of the better social platforms for photographers.
+Darren Neupert – I agree that it is getting bad. That is one reason that I have always moderated membership to my communities. To help keep spammers out. If I miss one on the front end, I ban them quickly! I only have a science community and a rendered and abstract digital art community. I enjoy photography, but the one decent camera I had decided to kick the bucket several years ago and I cannot afford to get a new one. Thus, sadly, my photographer wings have been clipped. So, I do fractal art and occasional 3D modeling instead.
