Death Valley Wildflowers 2017

An abandoned laundromat reflects in rain water in the California desert

Water is a sure sign of wildflowers to come!

When we ran across this flooded area on February 4, 2017, we knew that we had to come back the following month for the wildflowers!

By March 2017 I had photographed over two dozen wildflower species in Death Valley National Park so far. The prior year’s “super bloom” delivered a bumper crop of seeds, some of which bloomed in 2017 as well. The abundance also multiplied the rodent population, and that resulted in more sidewinder rattlesnakes tracks than I had seen in the park before. Watch where you step! I followed a couple of the tracks, but unfortunately was not able to catch up with any of the snakes.
