Ghost Town Interiors on a Mobile Phone

I decided to use a mobile phone almost exclusively for shooting interiors at Bodie State Historic Park on Sunday, and it was interesting to be free of both a tripod and viewfinder.  Mobile phones are "quick on the draw", perfect for a Wild West town.  Here are some of the results.

An iPhone in the Wild West
Can an iPhone capture decent photos indoors, and how will the photos compare with ones I've captured in the past on a DSLR?  The compositional flexibility of not shooting on a tripod was nice, and not having as much post-processing enabled me to select highlights to share faster (since any lenses used were external, not allowing dust to settle on the sensor).

  • I never used to give mobile phone cameras much thought, but they seem to have reached the point in dynamic range, ISO sensitivity and features (like highlight and shadow recovery through HDR) where they're finally a viable option for a greater percentage of situations +'A Beginner's Guide to becoming an Antiques Dealer'.  I'll still reach for my DSLR whenever quality is a priority, but convenience can be a feature as long as the results are good enough.  I did post-process these quickly in +Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, but even that step was faster since any lenses I used were external, and no dust spots could get on the sensor like with a DSLR.

  • Amazed with how well the photos turned out! For a cell phone camera are really extremely Contrast! The fisheye shots are my favorites! ... and what a brilliant place for groovy shots!!!!
