The only catch is, it's best seen in the sky this time of year in the hours shortly before dawn. The Milky Way becomes more available in the hours after sunset by early June. Lighting for the foreground was provided by a passing car.
It's starting to get hot in Death Valley, so my next visits this Spring will be to the higher elevations. Then I'll schedule a workshop or two this Fall:

Thank you! That glow on the horizon is not from teh nuclear test sites in Nevada, it is from Las Vegas, two hours drive away to the southeast. It takes 90-100 miles before the light from a major city starts to fade, so you really have to get out in the middle of nowhere in order to get the darkest possible skies for the best night sky photography.
The +IDA - International Dark-Sky Association tests and certifies light pollution in various locations, and it names "Dark Sky Reserves" where you can find some of the best night sky viewing: http://www.darksky.org/
Parts of Death Valley are among the darker places on the planet, but you either need to stick a mountain range between you and Las Vegas, or you need to move further north in the park.
