We Have Snow!

The sun was shining brightly on 9" of fresh snow during a brief break in the storm yesterday afternoon.  We're down at close to 5000 feet in elevation, but about 40 miles south up at 8400 feet in Bodie, they apparently received about 2 feet.

You can see slush floating on the surface of the water.  We had the lake freeze for nearly three weeks last year, and if temperatures drop we may see a repeat of that this year.

Unfortunately it would take 9 more storms like this one to simply catch up to the normal amount of precipitation we normally have by this date, so our drought is far from over.  I was determined to do a little fishing before that happened, so I went to the shore, but the slush was too thick to get a lure through.  So I tried wading around to create enough of an opening to take a few casts.  It didn't really work, so I guess I'll have to wait for warmer weather.

  1. Driving home, I was admiring the pile of clouds above the Sierra, say from about Sonora Pass north to Carson Pass…there abouts. At 5pm Friday, on the CBS Doppler it's moving south down the range along the mid/upper-elevation western slope, from W of Lake Tahoe as far as Yosemite.

Nice "winter" photo, +Jeff Sullivan !!!

CBS13 just noted we'd need SEVENTY of these  light rain storms to reach "normal."

Maybe we should ask all our friends back east to send us the precipitation "our" storms gave them?! (they can keep the sub-zero cold, though)

  2. Well I am in Charlotte NC and we are about to get recked by a winter storm
