Milky Way over Bodie Firehouse

This is from our night photography workshop last Friday at Bodie State Historic Park. The next one is coming up Saturday, June 29. The moon won't rise until after midnight, so the Milky Way should be stunning for most of the time we'll be there!

We'll offer a couple more workshop here in 2013: http://www.jeffsullivanphotography.com/blog/bodie-night-photography-workshops/

  1. Thank you +Edward V'Kanty.  This is the town of Bodie. California.  It's an old mining town established in the 1880s, currently preserved in a state of "arrested decay" as Bodie State Historic Park.  The Bodie Foundation helps us bring photographers in at night several times per year in exchange for revenue which helps preserve the buildings.  We raised $4100 for them last year, and will hopefully raise even more this year.

  2. It's thought-provoking +bob donnamaria to consider the solar system travelling 70,000 km/hr through space rotating around the Milky Way's galactic center, shown in this photo.  It's illustrated in an interesting way in this video: http://youtu.be/C4V-ooITrws
…although many of the details of that video are inaccurate as explained in this article:
No, Our Solar System is NOT a “Vortex”
