Yellowstone National Park: Beehive Geyser Rainbow

Evening is a great time to walk the geyser basins. If you catch an eruption and place the sun at your back, you can catch a rainbow in the spray!

This is Beehive Geyser, one of the more intermittent geysers in the Old Faithful Geyser Basin, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming.

Sorry I’ve been offline so much this week… Yellowstone was established as a national park on March 1, 1872, but it seems no more likely to get Internet service now than was did then!

Hopefully a new vendor will replace Xanterra’s vice-grip on 1900s-era concessions and services in the park will end some day, or perhaps the new head of the Department of Interior, Ken Salazar, will bring the parks into the 21st century? If so, better late than never!

  • Xanterra are crooks! I am very sad to see that they control Yellowstone and Yosemite.

Two experiences with them, and both left a bad taste. The promised me a queen bed in grant village this recent trip and gave just a small double bed. Also for a pathetic room they charged $263. They are stuck in 1900s as far as amenities goes but they are definitely in the 22nd century (yes I said 22nd) when it comes to pricing.

As for yosemite it was even worse. I cant believe that they overbooked, and when we showed up relatively late, their excuse was that they are fixing the plumbing work in the room and hence would not be able to accommodate us. I would avoid them like a plague if I can. Please avoid staying with them.
