Redwood National Park is one of those parks that is a bit off the radar for most folks, but it offers unique opportunities for dramatic rain forest landscapes, light rays through trees in morning fog, an annual rhododendron bloom and other wildflowers, wildlife including the possibility of capturing a herd of elk in a meadow, even elk at the beach, and dramatic weather and coastal light.
California’s North Coast is similar to the Oregon South Coast: dramatic rocky coasts and pocket beaches, but getting far less attention from summer crowds. We should be in the area before teh majority of families going on summer break trips.
In 2026 we’ll have the opportunity to be in the redwoods for the peak week of the rhododendrons, and we’ll offer an adjacent session to enjoy spring nearby along the Oregon Coast on the 5 nights, 6 days prior. Our arrival in California coincides with an opportunity to catch the moon setting over a lighthouse at sunrise.
Jeff scouted this area several times for his own photography and took family trips in the area with his kids. He and Lori explored the area on their way to and from Washington, and several times in preparation for running workshops. We’ll take a practice trip in early June 2025 then return to the best spots with you in June 2026.
In 2026 the timing of this Redwoods & Rhododendrons workshop works out perfectly to smoothly transition directly from an adjacent workshop the previous week on the Oregon Coast. So we’ll offer an adjacent Oregon Coast photography workshop May 26 -31. It’s available separately for $2495 (luxury lodging and 7-course breakfast included on the first night), but both can be taken for a special 25% off price of $3292! Sample Itinerary
To ensure you get the best pictures and to accommodate for any adverse weather, we keep the daily itinerary flexible. The following is an example of what to expect, though it may change slightly as appropriate during the workshop.
Lori and I will be heading 90 minutes south to shoot the Oregon Coast for 5 nights, 6 days prior to this. The tide will be perfect for sunset at Thor’s Well! Use the 50% deposit option and enroll in both now, and we’ll apply a 25% discount to both sessions (net price $3292 for both, 10 nights, 11 days) when we calculate the remainder payment due 6 months before the workshop.
