Based on our scouting in January, we returned to Death Valley in early March to enjoy this year’s strong wildflower bloom. It’s going to take months if not years to process all of the photos I took, but here are a few that I got to this week (before we return to Death Valley, LOL). I’ll get to captions and narrative as time permits, but we’re busy repacking, so enjoy the images for now!
We’ve been anticipating this since this blog post in early October! I see now that I didn’t write a blog post on our scouting trip, I posted images from it on Facebook.
How’s everyone enjoying the 2026 California wildflower season so far?
Disclaimer: I don’t make the rules… if everyone is calling it a “super bloom” and searching for updates on the “super bloom”, I have to make this blog post searchable on that basis. I posted documentation back in that October post about how there’s really no such thing as a super bloom. So whatever you prefer to call it, it’s a really strong wildflower season in Death Valley this year, probably in other areas of California soon, so enjoy the flowers!
Although the heat wave coming to the West Coast may dry out many lower elevation flowers, we may have more rain showers in late March or April, so keep your eye on the weather for a possible extension of the season.
