There are several high water areas currently impacting the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) and the John Muir Trail (JMT) in Yosemite National Park. Trail conditions may vary at any time.

When driving in the park, motorists are urged to drive slowly as bears and other animals are active and may be present on the roadway.

Fireworks Under Dark Skies: Mammoth Lakes

I’ve added several more fireworks photos to my Mammoth Lakes album on Flickr. The Mammoth Lakes fireworks display over Crowley Lake is one of the best ones in California for seeing and photographing fireworks in a truly dark setting!  Search this blog to find my articles on how to photograph fireworks.

If you’re thinking of seeing this year’s fireworks at Crowley Lake, you can stop by the Visit Mammoth and Mono County Tourism sites to get some ideas for other great things to do in the area while you’re up there: visit Mono Lake, the historic Wild West ghost town of Bodie, explore Devil’s Postpile National Monument… there’s so much to do, you might need a week or two!

With the full moon occurring at dawn this month, there were actually two full moon rises close to sunset. This was the first one, captured over Mono Lake in California's Eastern Sierra region..

Fall Colors Still Going Strong in the Eastern Sierra

A light storm this weekend could add nice atmospheric effects to photos, or it could blow leaves down!

Sunset at Mono Lake Friday Night

The Labor Day holiday weekend crowds are out, but at sunset at Mono Lake on Friday I managed to find a few feet of space without people in it.

Mono Lake / Eastern Sierra Workshop Last Week
As I did most of the summer, I held an Eastern Sierra workshop adjacent to my Bodie workshop last weekend, so people could see more of the area and get some practice with night photography before getting to Bodie on Sunday. Summer evenings are often windy, but that doesn't mean that you can't get good sunset shots!

We actually spent some time up in the Tioga Pass area as well, enjoying afternoon cumulous clouds, sunset, and night photography.
I'll have a couple of fall workshops in early October when we can revisit those areas:

Stormy Day in Bodie

Originally shared by +Jeff Sullivan Photography

At lest a couple of dozen photos from the July 29 night photography workshop are included in the Bodie Photography Workshops album. Torrential rains came to town at 3 pm, just as many workshop participants were leaving town to join us for a pre-workshop dinner at Virginia Creek Settlement. The rain cleared the air of smoke from California's wildfires, then the clouds added to the drama in the sky through golden hour and into sunset, but as often happens, quickly broke up for night photography. It was perfect photography workshop weather!

Our remaining Bodie workshops in 2016 are getting pretty full, so I'm looking into potentially adding a date in October. Let me know if you want to hear about 2017 dates once I have them. The most popular dates do fill quickly these days.

Perseid Meteor Shower 2016

I've been chasing every meteor shower that I could see with my camera since 2009. This year's Perseid meteor shower was one of the best I've experienced so far.

These are "work in progress" shots, where I've saved the images with meteors in them, and brought those into one composite image.

Sunset in the Pines

A photo from my workshop in the White Mountains Thursday evening through Saturday morning. We also spent a day and night on either end in the Eastern Sierra, getting to and from the Bristlecones.

We can schedule another trip or two up there this year if there's interest. We'll schedule return trips next year as well. http://www.jeffsullivanphotography.com/blog/eastern-sierra-fall-colors-photo-workshops/
