Perseid Meteor Shower 2015

California night photography and astrophotography by Jeff Sullivan

Perseid meteor shower composite of the brighter meteors captured over the course of several hours in the peak night in 2015.

This is a composite showing a few of the meteors I found in a southwest-facing sequence of images covering over 3 hours in the Mojave Desert. It takes a while to separate out the individual meteors, so I’ll come back to the rest of them as time permits.

I tried a north-facing sequence for about 30 minutes, but didn’t see as many meteors that direction, so left the camera shooting toward the Galactic center instead.

A time-lapse movie covering nearly 4 hours of the peak of the Perseid meteor shower in California’s Mojave Desert.

The Perseid meteor shower can be seen every year becoming increasingly active on the nights of August 10, 11, 12 (sometimes 13). Look up under open, dark skies to see some long, bright “earth grazer” meteors before midnight, then an increasing rate from then ’til dawn.
