If you'd like to see a launch tomorrow, NASA's Soil Moisture Active Passive mission (SMAP) launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, is scheduled for 6:20 a.m. PST (9:20 a.m. EST) Friday, Jan. 30, with a three-minute launch window. The launch of the United Launch Alliance/Delta II rocket was scrubbed Thursday due to a violation of upper-level wind constraints. Launch managers have initiated a 24-hour recycle. The weather forecast for this launch window shows a 90 percent chance of favorable conditions. After your high tech drama of the launch, +Jeff Sullivan , take a pause at La Purisima Mission near Lompoc – http://www.lapurisimamission.org/ – while you're in the neighborhood. I discovered it years ago when my now 30-year old son had it for his 4th or 5th grade class project, and we spent a chilly, rainy, winter day there. It has a wonderful sense of "quiet" in strong contrast to the grander missions like Carmel, San Fernando, San Juan Capistrano, San Diego, etc.
