Can decent pictures be taken on a device which isn't primarily a camera? Sometimes.

+Lilian Bourcart No, some of the apps I want to use run only on an Apple iPhone, so I bought the iPhone 5S. From what I've seen, the iPhone5S also seems to produce some of the best photographs, especially with the HDR mode turned on. It's not the least expensive phone on the market, but as a photographer I'd like to capture relatively high quality pictures on my phone when I want to be able to share an update online.

They have come pretty far the Nokia Lumia has a 41 mp sensor and 6x optical zoom by Zeiss. A friend has one it takes stunning pictures.

Yes, it's very exciting that +Nokia 's +Ari Partinen has just joined Apple +Russell Bateman. Hopefully future Apple iPhones will offer RAW files to apps, integrate higher resolution sensors, and offer larger sensors with improved low light performance. A great camera phone deserves a platform with great apps for photographers like +PhotoPills, +The Photographer's Ephemeris. +Snapseed and so on.
