My Mojave Desert trip last week began with snow. As the storms were clearing up last Sunday morning, our power was out at Topaz Lake. Then when it came back up, our Internet was still down.
Considering the Mojave trip I had been wanting to take for some time, the partly cloudy forecast which could bring great sunrises and sunsets, and the moonless nights this week if the clouds did clear up, I quickly packed up, got out the door and on the road. About an hour later I was passing Mono Lake, which was offering some spectacular reflections of the last remnants of the storm clouds. It's pretty amazing to be living in ski country yet to be able to drive to the desert in a few hours.
